Panasonic TC-P50U50 Quality Test | review 2013

SD Card Slot An Innovation Within the Mighty Panasonic TC-P50U50

Whenever a TV supplier comes out with an innovation that even makes sense, let alone works, we are emphatic with joy and cannot wait to share our paranoia with all of you. So be it that the Panasonic TC-P50U50 has heralded the arrival of the SD Card slot, for you to enjoy your memorable moments on picture in 50” splendor and grandeur. At just under $960 the Panasonic TC-P50U50 VIERA 50” 1080p 60Hz Full HD Plasma TV boasts wonderful picture quality and a very competitive price, certainly makes you think hard about anything relatively close to it, as a competitor. Accurate colors, deep black levels and magnificent angled viewing continue to push the case for the Panasonic TC-P50U50.

Will Geeks Take to This? – Doubt it!

Sounding a trumpet to a geek means expecting the next best thing to appear on your new TV set almost instantaneously. It doesn’t really matter what the innovation is or how useful it is, as long as it features every bit of technology already known to mankind, plus a few extra gizmos for good measure. Then, there are the practical, down-to-earth folk, like you and us, who like something new, only if it actually helps us to achieve something, no matter now extraordinary or not that change might be.

With a plasma TV carrying the price label the Panasonic TC-P50U50 has, we won’t be clamoring for much more than we get. We can, of course, mention the horrendous picture quality when viewing in a brightly-lit room and the 2 measly HDMI ports and we could also trash talk the Panasonic TC-P50U50 for an energy-guzzling machine that defies logic.

There is an inbuilt wi-fi, for those who cannot remain offline long enough to enjoy a film, but no Smart TV. Watch out, however for the innovative SD Card slot, which more than compensates for only 2 HDMI ports, 1 component/composite slot and 1 USB port. Hopefully, this is something all TV producers can now focus their sights on.

panasonic tc-p50u50 review

Picture quality is really an outstanding strong point for the Panasonic TC-P50U50. Comparing the kind of quality you receive with competing brands within the same price range, is a no-go. There is simply nothing better. However, to be able to see the kind of picture that we witnessed, it is recommended that you click here to see the ideal settings. Black color and shadow details are awesome.

1080p/24 cadence, during video processing, was slightly under-par, with both 60Hz and 48Hz proving inadequate and there is no dejudder function to try to reduce the lack of smoothness. Regarding brightness control, especially within brightly-lit rooms, the Panasonic TC-P50U50 suffers quite dramatically, making it one of the worst plasma TV’s we have tested, in this area.

During our color testing, we found Bright Gray x/y, Before Average Color Temperature and  After Average Color Temperature to fall short of our expectations.

We’ve Seen Enough to Believe that Miracles Can Happen

Not that we ever doubted Panasonic’s capacity to present a plasma TV quite the way we expect, but to provide us with the Panasonic TC-P50U50 at the price you pay, is something truly remarkable and complements the brand a hundredfold. We mentioned that energy consumption is something of a drawback with the Panasonic TC-P50U50 but, then again, so are most plasma TV’s. With the Default setting enables, you could save up to $18 a year, but would still need to fork out around $28 for the 126 watts you have consumed. This ranks pretty poorly on the plasma scale when compared to other models and brands and something which might need some consideration if you intend buying.
